Load
shedding

Our load shedding solutions let you make the most of your ability to reduce, modulate or substitute your electricity consumption on days of grid stress, on the markets and regulatory mechanisms.

Why practice load shedding?

Tailored to each customer’s profile and load shedding capacities, our load shedding offers allow you to control your electrical consumption according to the needs of your grid and earn revenue for doing so.

Upon notifying Agregio Solutions and within the contractually agreed notice period, you can switch off, modulate or substitute your consumption (e.g. by using a local electricity production facility) by an agreed-upon amount.

In return, we valorize this power for you on the electricity markets in accordance with regulatory mechanisms. We then pay you a fee for the service rendered to the electricity grid. You also receive an activation bonus for each load shedding operation. This covers the costs of implementation or the loss of revenue associated with the shutdown.

A win-win contract for the customer and the power grid:

> Diversify revenue and/or cover the maintenance costs of an emergency power unit

> Contribute to the balancing of the national power grid by offering consumption flexibility, which combines perfectly with the expansion of intermittent renewable energy

> Reduce the system’s CO2 emissions when the activity modulation load shedding coincides with winter consumption peaks

Solutions adapted to your electrical load shedding potentiel

Whether you are an industrial or tertiary business, we offer 2 types of flexibility offers adapted to your profile and your load shedding potential (for projects of less than 500 kW).

For small to medium-sized industrial and tertiary sector entities.

A solution backed by the Capacity Mechanism and the Decarbonized Flexibilities Call for Tenders (AOFD) when you are eligible, offering you load shedding over the winter period with an activation signal transmitted the day before for the following day (working days only).

for electro-intensive (EI), hyper-electro-intensive (HEI) or tertiary/industrial companies able to switch off in less than 13 minutes. This solution allows load shedding throughout the year.

Load shedding solution: reduce your electrical consumption on days of grid stress

To commit to making power available to the grid on days of grid stress, we help you define your load shedding potential, taking into account your operational and organizational constraints. Our team adapts the Load Shedding Solution to your needs.

With this solution, a load shedding operation will only be requested by the transmission system operator if the day in question is declared as a day of grid stress by RTE (e.g. peak consumption) and market prices reach a sufficiently high level to make use of your load shedding capacity. RTE reserves the right to study and test your load shedding capacity on a day of grid stress outside of economic conditions.

For the client, there are two methods of load shedding, depending on their capacity to modulate their activity and whether replacement equipment is available on site.

Load shedding by process interruption or modulation

This type of load shedding consists of interrupting all or some of the activity, thereby consuming less on the national grid during activation. This can involve interrupting or modulating processes in a number of sectors, including metallurgy, paper and plastics.

For certain activity typologies such as cold storage, process modulation can also be implemented with a shorter load-shedding period (e.g. 2 hours) by relying on thermal inertia.

Load shedding by switching to a local generator

Load shedding by switching to a local generator enables a customer to switch consumption to its own power generation equipment, such as a stationary storage system or emergency backup generators.

A client portal to manage
your power availability

To support you throughout your flexibility contract, Agregio Solutions provides you with an interactive portal that enables you to track operational actions:

User and notification management

Management of unavailabilities

Management of operational tracking

Updates & Markets

Through a dashboard linking each of these data points, customers can view key information at a glance, along with the list of sites covered by the contract and a summary of unavailabilities, and access the easy-to-use modules.

Ways to implement load shedding

Depending on the constraints of the customer’s site, virtually any industrial or tertiary activity is suitable for deletion: metallurgy, wood & sawmills, cold storage, water treatment, foundries, paper mills, plastics processing, distribution networks, materials production, supermarkets, airports, logistics, data centers, clinics, hospitals, waste treatment, food processing, the automotive industry, etc.

Our Load Shedding Solution offers more advantageous conditions for customers who are ready to commit to the process with us for a period of 2 or 3 years. Your long-term service to the grid is rewarded!

The notice period for activation is defined in your contract. It is D-1 between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm for load shedding on a day D within the framework of our Load Shedding Solution. This notice period can be significantly reduced, to just a few minutes on the same day, for customized multi-market offers.

> Every Friday during the winter period, you will receive our forecast of the network voltage days for the following week.

> At the end of the week at the latest, for the following week, you will have to declare your unavailability in order to be withdrawn from the system and not to be asked for load shedding.

> On D-1 : RTE declares day D as a grid stress day
>
On D-1 between 9 :00 and 21 :00 : the notification of activation is sent to you by text and email according to your activation format
>
Day D : activation of your load shedding capacity according to your activation format
> Once the load shedding has taken place, we contact you to present the results of this activation
