Currently, the most attractive mechanisms and markets in France are :
Your storage asset generates capacity guarantees when it is available for injection on PP2 days (including PP1) during the winter period.
Your battery is automatically activated in proportion to the frequency deviation at 50 Hz.
*The primary reserve is part of the “frequency system services”
Your battery is automatically activated according to a signal sent by RTE to restore the 50 Hz frequency.
*The secondary reserve is also part of the “frequency system services”
Your battery benefits from price changes: charging during the least expensive hours, discharging during the most expensive hours.

Everything you need to know about storage asset flexibility
- Capacity income corresponds to the remuneration paid to the battery for its availability: on days declared as PP2 by RTE with capacity, or on D-1 auction slots for system services.
- Energy or activation income corresponds to the remuneration paid for the flexibility actually achieved, upwards or downwards, or for the purchase/sale of
energy on the markets.
To ensure balance on the power grid, RTE has set up reserves which the transmission system operator calls on to correct any supply/demand discrepancies that arise.
The primary reserve is activated automatically in less than 30 seconds to keep the frequency close to 50 Hz.
The secondary reserve, which is also activated automatically, is activated in less than 5 minutes to restore the frequency following the primary reserve.
You can find out more about these two reserves, which are referred to as system services, and about tertiary reserve, which is currently less relevant to batteries, on the RTE website.
Batteries generate capacity guarantees when they provide services to the grid by injecting electricity.
These guarantees are remunerated according to the outcome of the capacity auction for the year in question.
The battery is also subject to capacity obligations, which are generated by electricity consumers to finance capacity guarantees.
These obligations therefore remain a cost on PP1 days, when consumption peaks and batteries draw electricity from the grid.
However, this cost remains far lower than the income generated by capacity guarantees.
